As the quietness of the library surrounded Kira, she wondered if she’d be lost forever. Trying to laugh it off, she moved along the shelves. Dim light came from somewhere above adding to the eeriness.
‘You know that’s not true, Love,’ a disembodied male voice whispered.
Jumping, she spun around, her arm knocking some books off. They landed with a thud and a flurry of white pages covered the floor. Kneeling, she picked up the nearest book and began reading;
“Have I gone mad? I’m afraid so, but let me tell you something, the best people usually are.”
Closing the book, Kira placed it back and then did the same with the others. Standing and brushing her pyjama pants off, she noticed the black cat rubbing against her ankle.
‘Where’s Alice?’ she giggled.
The cat glanced at her, then opened its mouth and replied, ‘This isn’t that kind of place.’
