Serenity #1LinerWeds

Swans never seem to have any worries. Why can’t we all be like them? The world might be better then.

Myself Day

still-life-3097682_1920

The phone rang. April opened her eyes and rolled over in bed, ‘not today please,’ she muttered. Tugging a pillow over her head, she settled back down.

There was a knocking at the front door. April moaned, ‘not now,’ and turned over.

Something was tugging at the duvet, then there was a weight on her legs. April, disgruntled and looking dishevelled, peered to see what it was.

‘Hello, cat,’ she said and scooped the tabby up.

Snuggling her pet, April went back to sleep again, lulled by the cat’s purring.

A tapping on a window downstairs came next. April shifted around and decided the warm, heaviness of her bedding wasn’t worth the effort to move. Ignoring the sound, she drifted off again.

Another ring of the phone. The shrill tone echoing through the quiet house like a warning alarm. April unwrapped the cat from around her head and pulled down the duvet.

‘Go away!’ she shouted at the phone. She picked it up and slammed it back down.

April lay back and looked at the ceiling. Her cat crawled on to her chest and curled up there.

‘Today is a myself day and I don’t want to talk to anyone,’ April spoke.

Listening

She came to the stream to listen. As a young girl, she had hunted for fairies and it was the thought of them that always helped to ease her mind.

Gig #100WW

The music was too loud, Mia only knew that because she could feel the vibrations under her feet coming from the huge speakers on the stage. The crowd around her must almost be loud, their voices screaming and shouting trying to be heard above the rock band.

Mia didn’t mind being jostled by the crowd, she was just apart of the sea of faces. No one but her best friend who was dancing beside her, knew of her deafness. Here in the crush, Mia was just another fan and she could pretend to be normal once again.

Lost #CCC

I hadn’t walked this way in the woods before so the wooden staircase took me by surprised. I went up the rickety steps and followed the path around, wondering where it would led.

The trees blocked out the sky with thick branches and leaves, over grown bushes scratch me and trailing ivy tried to trip me up. I fought through the nature and popped out into a clearance. Long grasses grew up around thirty or forty different stones.

Confused, I looked at one of the stones and realised I was standing in a lost pet cemetery.

Numbers #3LineTales

three line tales, week 185: numbers

What were the numbers on the wall? Who put them there and what did they mean? Caz puzzle over this. He wanted to just say they were graffiti, kids messing around with the Devil’s number.

There was something, Caz’s six sense said, that he just couldn’t shake though. He pulled out his phone and put the numbers in. He hoped they were just meaningless and no one picked up.

There was a crackle, a tinny, distant voice began speaking in his ear, ‘A Hell demon speaking. Who is this?’

Summer Storm #FridayFictioneers

Jayne looked out of the window and shook her head. Everything had been set for her son, Kit’s tenth birthday party in the backyard. The marque was up, the BBQ ready and the swimming pool full. Everyone had been excited and now the party was a total wash out.

A summer storm had rolled in; rain lashed down, wind whipped around, the thunder rumbled and lightening cracked.  They had all rushed and huddled inside, the children crying and the parents uncertain what to do.

‘I’ll put a movie on,’ Jayne spoke, ‘and get some pizzas in the oven. We’ll have a sleep over instead.’

Taxi! #TwitteringTales

Everyone thought the job was easy; drive people from A to B but Dec knew there was more to it. With twelve years under his belt, he found the waiting boring, nervous still collecting customers and traffic stressful.

That’s why he’d decided to give up and move to the coast to work on a boat.

Camp #WhatPegmanSaw

During the summer, the school’s headmaster would go away. Worn down and stressed, he found escaping to the hills and spending time in complete isolation and nature the best to recover.

He pitched a tent, created a fire, built extra shelter from fallen branches and ferns around his camp site. During the daytime, he walked the hills, fished, set rabbit traps and collect edible fruits, plants and fungi. Later, he cooked what he’d caught and had supper.

At night he fell sleep, lulled by rain, wind and animals’ calls, knowing when he woke there was nothing to worry over.

Comfort Food

soup-4381589_1920.jpg

It was crazy, Petra knew but the flu was gripping her hard and the only thing she want was a nice bowl of stew….In the middle of August!

Though, today looked more like autumn, Petra thought as she looked out of the steaming up kitchen window. Gale force winds and heavy rain were blowing the full leave trees and bushes about as if a God was constantly sneezing on them.

Stirring the pot, she peered in, decided that was fine and put the lid on. Petra set the timer for a few hours, not a thing she’d normally do but she couldn’t smell so she couldn’t relay on that to tell her when it was done.

Back in bed, she snuggled down and tried to get an afternoon nap in. She dozed and thought of the tasty, warm, comforting stew bubbling in the pot. Soon, she told her stomach, we can eat and everything will feel better again. Lovely, stew….
