Kitchen Sink #FridayFictioneers

I hadn’t been on holiday in years and now getting away for two weeks on honeymoon seemed perfect.

Of course, I had been packing for weeks. Not sure what I’d need in Italy which was a place I had always wanted to visit.

At the airport my husband turned to me and said, ‘looks like you’ve packed everything! Which suitcase is the kitchen sink in?’

Up Hill Struggles #FridayFictioneers

George grumbled to himself as he looked up the hilly path, he didn’t stand a chance in his wheelchair.

‘I’m not enjoying this holiday!’ he shouted.

His family gathered around, telling him not to worry and that they’d give him a hand.

‘I want to be independent!’ George cried.

‘We need to get you a motorized chair,’ his son answered, ‘they sell them in the town here, we shall go there tomorrow.’

George curled up in his wheelchair and began muttering to himself, ‘I want legs. I want legs.’

‘We’ll do the best we can,’ his wife answered.

Get Away #FFftPP

The Spanish accommodation didn’t look like the photos on the internet but Mel and Alex weren’t bothered. Their apartment was clean, cool and cosy just what they wanted to return to after a day of exploring.

The stone building was old but built to last with flowers and trailing plants everywhere. There was a nice cold swimming pool at the side and a lawn for kids to play on, though thankfully there didn’t seem to be many children here this week. Most would be going back to school now.

Mel and Alex had just wanted to get away for a week and this holiday hadn’t been planned at all. That’s why they weren’t fussy about things, they were just happy to be relaxing and far from busy city life.

Taking deep breaths of warm, flower fragrant air, Mel stood in the doorway feeling so happy. Alex came behind her, all ready for a morning by the pool side. They kissed, pressed their foreheads together and smiled.

‘I’m glad we decided to do this, husband,’ Mel spoke.

‘Me too, wife,’ Alex replied, ‘let’s go swimming.’

Hand in hand, they walked to the pool and swim in the cool shimmering water.

Take Off #FridayFictioneers

Sitting at the airport, he wondered if the plane to the island would come. Flights were called, people hurried passed. He looked at his ticket, he’d been fooled, the island didn’t have a landing strip!

His number was called, surprised he followed four people outside to a mini bus. They got in but he hesitated, what was going on? Everyone looks so calm. Unsure, he took a seat and the door closed behind him.

They were driven to a lake and he saw a sea plane bobbing on the water.

Ah! he thought, that’s how we get to the island!

Over Crowded #TwitteringTales

Britney looked around the beach. It seemed everyone in the world was here and the noise was so loud Britney couldn’t hear the sea! Leaving her husband sleeping and the children learning to surfboard, she found an empty cafe on the promenaded.

Finally some quietness! she thought.

Postcard Story

big-ben-bridge-clock-tower-50632.jpg

Dear family,

London is mad! It’s huge, so much to see and do. We’ve been around so many museums and shops that my feet are dead! My brain is overloaded right now. Uncle wasn’t wrong when he said we wouldn’t do everything in a week!

Tomorrow, we are off to see the Queen. Though Dee says we won’t really get to meet her, it’s just her house and stuff. But I’ve been practising my curtsy and manners anyway!

Hope the weather is nice back home and everyone is doing well!

Love, Twins.

London #WhatPegmanSaw

thames-541456_1920.jpg

London was everything and nothing like I had believed. The city was constantly moving like the Thames river that divided it. There were always lights, smells and noises, it was so easy to get lost.

I tapped my stick on the pavement and held onto Bonny’s guiding harness. My senses told me that my husband Zak was still walking by my side. All around me were other people moving with great hurry and excitement.

I was scared as was natural in an unknown city but also embracing the new experience. Being blind wasn’t going to stop me from seeing London.

Postcard Story

deckchairs-355596_1920

Dear children,

We are having a lovely time and the hotel is beautiful. Yesterday, we went for a walk on the beach then hired deck chairs to doze the afternoon way in. A seagull stole your father’s ice cream and I laughed so hard I dropped my own!

Tomorrow, if the sea is warmer we might go for a swim, though I hear there are lots of jellyfish about. If I see one of them I’ll be out as fast as I can be!

We’ll be sure to bring you some presents back and no doubt some sand too!

Happy summer,

Mum and Dad.

Beach summers; sand between toes, sea in ears, ice cream on tongues, making memories that last a life time.

The Land That’s Not Green #Pegman

ice-463845_1920

The boat bobbed through icy water, sliding past icebergs that drift on the sea.

Lola took a few photos then turned to look for her sister. Other tourists blocked her view but she spotted Rey at the bow. Going over, Lola joined her.

‘Isn’t Greenland just something else?’ Rey spoke.

‘It is but it’s not very green,’ Lola answered.

The girls smiled at that on going joke.

A blast of sea spray fell like harsh snowflakes on their faces and drew them both to look over the side. Below, large creatures were breaking through the bow waves.

‘Whales!’ Rey cried.

‘Amazing!’ Lola added.
