Robirds #TwitteringTales

Opening my window, I smoked my first cig of the morning. The cages strung between apartment blocks were filled with brightly colored, noisy birds. As a child, I’d thought them real and tried to set them free but there were no animals and those birds are robots.

Pug Face #TwitteringTales

Back from a quick lunchtime walk, both my pug and I were soaked to the bone. We stood shivering in the hallway, wondering why we had risked going outside in monsoon style weather.

Grabbing towels, I wrapped us both up and saw my pug’s face saying it all.

Outwitted #TwitteringTales

The detective stood on the empty platform, casually smoking a cigarette and watching the steam train rolling in through the heavy down pour of rain.

This was the moment he had been waiting for. The carriage doors open, steam billowed and the hunt for the murder was finally over.

A Sign #TwitteringTales

Following the directions, Ben arrived outside the building. Taking a deep breath, he hoped this job interview was a success. He knocked on the door and whilst he waited, noticed a sign above. He smiled and agreed with the words.

Yes. This is it, he thought.

Beginning #TwitteringTales

He wrote the first line of the story that had been in his head for awhile then stopped, not  sure how to continue. He read what he had typed then tried again but his fingers were frozen above the keys. Perhaps, being an author wasn’t his calling after all.

People Watching #TwitteringTales

When inspiration didn’t come for her novels, Darcy would go to Corner Cafe and people watch whilst she sipped a latte. Sometimes little dramas would play out which Darcy could use and other times just daydreaming about the lives around her helped.

The Witches’ Pots #TwitteringTales

Three ancient hags sat around a fire, stirring their black pots which they added things too and whispered over.

‘Tail of rat dropped in this potion for a diplomat.’

‘Eyes of gnome dissolved in this lotion for Jerome.’

‘Tongue of duckling tender in this poison for the king.’

Tree Portal #TwittingTales

My twin boys were whispering behind the oak tree. Creeping up, I shouted ‘boo!’ they both jumped, ‘What you doing?’

‘We found the way to Christmas land,’ Cody answered.

‘Like in that movie,’ Corey added.

‘But we can’t get in!’

‘We need a little magic,’ I explained.

Fading #TwitteringTales

mashup

It was a photo everyone always laughed over. Those old cameras creating ‘ghost’ images when the button was pressed too fast. There was more to it though because the girls in the background, my cousins, had been long dead before the printed date on the back said.
